Wave data are measured using a Datawell Directional Waverider Mk III buoy. The buoy was deployed on the 10th September 2009, at which time the magnetic declination at the site was 2.8° west, changing by 0.15° east per year.

09/10/2012 Buoy located and kindly reported by member of public at Llantwit Major. Initial inspection suggests badly damaged. Replacement will be deployed as soon as weather conditions permit.
22/09/2012 The buoy came adrift shortly after midnight and despite predictions of its position kindly provided by Swansea Coastguard an extensive search has found no trace of it
