Wave parameters are recorded using a Datawell Directional WaveRider Mk III buoy (shown above before a scheduled service).

The buoy was deployed on 18 December 2006.

21/12/2012 Buoy redeployed.
22/11/2012 Reports have been received of a large vessel with loss of power and dragging its anchor in the vicinity of the wave buoy, which has since stopped sending data.  Recovery efforts are underway
24/07/2012 Buoy swapped for Olympics.
20/10/2011 Buoy recovered and re-deployed.
17/10/2011 A member of the public has kindly alerted us that the buoy has been caught up by a large vessel and is proceeding at a rate of knots towards Portland Harbour.  Recovery efforts are underway.

11/02/2009 The data from the wave buoy are not being transmitted to the website and it appears that the cabling at the shore station has been damaged.  Engineers are on site.
15/11/2008 There are problems at the shore station and the modem requires replacing.
